It’s been two years since my last official hair update, where I revealed a concerning patch of hair that had apparently fallen out, leaving a perfectly round bald spot on the back of my skull. The difference with a Dutch braid is the sections of hair overlap underneath each other instead of over the top of each other. You could say they underlap, offering a unique, stylish, 3D appearance that really pops.

One of the best things about long hair is “letting your freak flag fly,” as the late David Crosby famously sang in Almost Cut My Hair. Full flow in other words, hanging loose, The Waterfall, letting it ride, i.e. wearing it down.

You’ve seen viking braids, you want viking braids…you don’t know HOW to tie viking braids. You might not even believe it’s possible, with the complex knots and cords showcased in popular viking movies and television shows.

Whatever was to come of my 2-year hair update, I certainly wasn’t expecting this.

I used to wear a goatee, but for the last year it’s just been the mustache, so I didn’t notice anything at first. However, when I wouldn’t shave for a few days, I started to see little round patches where no hair was growing. I didn’t realize it at the time, but I had developed a condition called alopecia barbae.

We’ve been seeing a lot of hair updates lately, from our Grow With Moreno series to El Chuckarino’s explosive first update. Not to be outgrown, El Rubio checks in with his 15 month hair update, with no tremendous growth to speak of, but an important update no less.

El Rubio checks in with his one year hair growth update as much of the world stays home during the COVID-19 pandemic, while we’re all getting glimpses of the places we live in a way we have rarely seen.

He was a guy with short hair. Very short. And spiky.

With all it’s excellence, long hair requires a little more effort and maintenance.
