A Longhaired Perspective on Genetic Sequencing

And Moving Weiners on Friday Night

In Episode 12 of LET IT RIDE we rap with Eric Raether, better known in longhair circles as “El Extrano,” a Senior Web Experience Manager for Illumina, which develops, manufactures and markets genetic sequencing systems for the analysis of genetic variation and biological function with the goal of transforming human health.

His real job though, is West End Wieners, a hot dog cart he’s been operating in Pacific Beach for over a decade, and home of the world famous Pavlov Dog. Eric moves more wieners on a Friday night than you handle in a week.

Bearing a striking resemblance to one of the famous longhairs of all time, El Extrano has come to be known by his customers as Hot Dog Jesus.

You’ll hear about these and various other occupations, along with these fascinating discussion topics:

  • Genetic sequencing technology
  • Websites and online marketing strategy
  • The average volume of dogs you can slang on a Friday night
  • Playing bass with Franky T and The Triple B
  • Walking into a job interview with your hair down
  • Preliminary plans for the largest gathering of longhaired men in the history of mankind

So sit back, crack a beverage and join us at The Longhairs Global Headquarters, because no one wants a boiled wiener.

  1. I was planning to donate, but I can wait till you guys plan a big event if it is really going to happen.

  2. As both a bass player and an aspiring Long Hair myself, I enjoyed this podcast. Would like to hear Eric elaborate some time about the bass playing side of his life.

Keep up the great work, gents!!
